Advanced International Test Qualification for Software
Companies comes to Ireland
ISTQB Advanced Qualification In Ireland
New Advanced International Test Qualification for Software Companies comes to
Ireland Sogeti will provide a new training course in Ireland for software
professionals. This is the first course of its kind to be held in Ireland and
gives access to the new Advanced Test Analyst Qualification under the
International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB). The Qualification
will be accredited by the newly formed Irish Software Testing Board (ISTB) and
is being grant aided by the Software Skillnet. It heralds the new standard of
best practice for Software Testing Professionals.
Software testing is now becoming central to competitiveness for companies in the
sector, as software defects can result in significant costs and negative impact
on the business if it is left undetected. Fran O’Hara, practice director, Sogeti
Ireland explains, “The ISTQB Advanced software testing certification is a
higher level of the international ISTQB standard which companies in the sector
have been waiting for. ”
The availability of this certification at analyst level is set to boost the
skill levels of the Irish software sector. In these challenging times the
Software Skillnet has commissioned Sogeti to deliver the course, to ensure that
the new qualification is very accessible to Irish companies. The Software
Skillnet will provide over 50% of the cost for each trainee in an ICT company
who wants to take part.
Dr. Rory O’Connor, chairman of the newly formed Irish Software Testing Board,
added, “ISTQB has become a global standard for software testing certification
and there are over 100,000 people worldwide who have qualified under the scheme.
We will now be overseeing the accreditation of this programme in Ireland, which
will improve projects by increasing quality and reducing defect levels in new
software products. This means better satisfied customers and more efficient
business processes.”
Anna Donegan from the Irish Software Association, which sponsors the Software
Skillnet adds, "We strongly support this new IT skills offering and see it as
a positive development for the Irish software industry. The ISTQB software
tester certification is by far the most widely recognised and fastest growing
software tester certification in the world.”
Fran O’Hara continues, “Software testing is now becoming central to
competitiveness for companies in the sector, as software defects can result in
significant costs and negative impact on the business if it is left undetected.”
The intensive course which results in an advanced test analyst qualification can
be completed in five days. The course costs €1,495 plus €200 exam fee or with
Skillnets grant-aid only €800 plus exam fee. The course can be booked on the
Software Skillnet website at (www.isa-skillnet.com )

program provides certification for software testers internationally. There are
currently two levels of certification: The Foundation Level and three separate
Advanced Level certificates. For both levels, international working parties
develop and maintain internationally uniform curricula and exams. One of the
core principles of the program is a strict separation between the administration
of exams and the training to those who would like to prepare for the exam in
ISTQB accreditated courses. In Ireland the ISTB (Irish Software Testing Board)
is the official Irish national representative body of the ISTQB.
About ISTB The Irish Software Testing Board (ISTB) offers software
testing certification, dependable training accreditation and career-enhancing
support for software testing professionals throughout Ireland. As a member of
the International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB), the ISTB is

Irish Software Testing Board Formally Launched
The World’s Most Popular Software Testing Certification
Reaches Ireland
The Irish Software Testing Board (ISTB) offers software testing
certification, dependable training accreditation and career-enhancing support
for software testing professionals throughout Ireland. It was formally launched
at a ceremony in Dublin on 4th September in Dublin City University at the
international EuroSPI (Software Process Improvement) conference. As a member of
the International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB)
www.istqb.org, the ISTB is responsible for
providing a consistent accreditation system for the education and training of
professional testers. The board develops, adopts and promulgates standards for
software testing, training course development, and professional qualification.
Two training providers are already accredited by the ISTB, Insight in Dun
Laoghaire, Co. Dublin (www.insight.ie) and
SQS Ireland in Dawson St, Dublin (www.sqs-ire.com).
Also ISTQB courses are provided through the Centre for Software Engineering (www.cse.dcu.ie)
in Dublin City University.
"The Irish Software Testing Board decided to affiliate to the International
Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) as the ISTQB software tester
certification is by far the most widely recognized and fastest-growing software
tester certification in the world," said Dr. Rory O’Connor Chairman of the
ISTB. “Reaching the 100,000 certification milestone in October 2008 validates
ISTQB’s leadership in helping software testers to demonstrate their knowledge,
skill and professionalism.”
ISTQB certification traces its origins to Europe, where industry demand led to
its development. "Companies tell us they choose ISTQB certification because
it is practical, focusing on the software testing knowledge and skills their
testers need every day," said Fran O’Hara of Insight Consulting.
“Companies have found ISTQB certification to be credible because they freely
offer the ISTQB certification syllabi and software testing glossary, and let
companies choose their own education and training providers,” said Claire
Murphy of SQS Ireland. "These training providers are then quality assured
through the ISTQB processes."
